Sheikh Moshref al-din
bin Mosleh al-din Sadi Shirazi who was the greatest poet of Iran, was born in Shiraz in 580 A.H. After his father's death, he continued his studies in Baqdads Nezamiyeh School. He traveled to Syria, Palestine, Minor Asia, North of Africa, India and many other countries. He became acquainted with different people during his voyage around the world. Then he returned to Shiraz and started his most important book Boostan (The Fruit Garden) or SadiNameh which is the conclusion of his 30 years experiences, travelling and familiarity with people. His second work Gulistan (The Rose Garden), which is the most eloquent Persian prose, includes moral and social stories in eight chapters. Sadis book of poetry includes elegies, fragments, lyrics, Tarjeeat,and quatrains. Sadi died in 691 A.H. His mausoleum is in Shiraz near RoknAbad water Khanqah. |
